Veterinarian’s kit

Antibiotic resistance in animals is a major health concern, whether among livestock or domestic pets. The district veterinary laboratory in the Alpes Maritimes area, in France (LVD06) performs approximately 1200 antibiotic susceptibility tests each year and promotes good antibiotic stewardship among local veterinarians. In this context, the laboratory has joined the ESBL project, with the aim of comparing human and animal strains. Thus when an ESBL-producing enterobacteriacea is isolated in a domestic pet, the LVD06 sends a questionnaire to the owner and a leaflet to the attending vet.
